I was doing Masters       work in CS at Illinois Istitute of Technology, and did not want to wait around       for a terminal at 35th and        State, on Chicago's South Side till 8:00 PM at night. So I added a Micromodem       II to my trusty Apple II+, with a phenomenal 64K or memory in order to do       assignments.              A few days later, after getting my first BBS List (I think it was Sonka but       I'm not sure) and calling the North/Pulaski BBS System as well as NIAUG and       Message 82 (which was still up for a bit before the Greene Machine replaced       it) Jazzman59 was born and        the rest is Chicago BBS history.              Aunt Sexy, Sexy Bedtime Stories, and more were cute and could hardly be       termred hard core porn, but mostly humorous. Bob and Fern, George and myself       did most of the posting, and others joined in as the spirit moved them.              George set up regular BBS parties at area restaurants, and we had some at a       DISCO Called 123 that I used to hand out at as well - Lynn120 and Lisa F and       I became friends and dated both briefly.               Those were the days, and it's nice to run into a few here.               After that, by 1984 I opted for PC Board and setup Publisher Information       Service, dedicated to Xerox Ventura Publisher, which also was started a       Compuserve Forum = so A lot of the files I had for DTP were uploaded to the       Compuserve Forum.              By 1986-7, the Metrolink Echo was sporting a Ventura Publisher Forum, which       orginated in CA so I originated it here in Chicago and entered into an       Authorized Ventura Publishing Training Center with Xerox Corp.              The BBS served well - we got a nice mention in PUBLISH! mag in 1985 and the       Chicago Tribune did a good piece in 1999. After that, things just evaporated.              Those were the days.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
