Simple sms doesn't need data. I still own a personal blackberry that was last used as my primary phone in 2014. I don't have it handy or I would give you more specifics. I kept it because there were a few features (like the music player) that worked a lot better than on any phone I have had since. Something else that still works better, as you pointed out, is the battery life. It still doesn't run down near as fast as the others I have had since.
