I have never trusted it either.  Apple (and other phone OSes) have their
clouds, which of course were all hacked and lead to the scandal with a lot
of female celebs having nude photos leaked online.  IIRC, it was called the
Frappening.

Some of the bigwigs where I worked (state government) were big on jumping
onto that bandwagon trend but, at least while I was there (until 2023),
they never did.
