Not suprising to me in the least.

And it's nothing new, popular media denigrates intellectual achievments.

Back in the 1950's, Isaac Asimov wrote an essay called "The Cult Of
Ignorance" decrying this, using the example of a movie, showing a woman who
does research, but she isn't "happy" until Mr Tall Dark And Handsome sweeps
her off her feet, she dumps her research to marry TD & H.

Obama gets denigrated for being "too intellectual/elite," while George W
Bush was "just a guy we could have a beer with."
