NB>> ... Food can't be "healthy." Food, in most cases, is actually dead.

ML> There are those who eat only things they think are alive,
ML> such as certain raw vegetables. I figure, it's like food,
 ML> give it up.

Certain extremes become somewhat comical...

NB>>> would take to do them right... I've worked on Beethoven's Eroica
NB>>> variations, and made some progress... but to ever perform them...?
NB>>> Nah, not gonna happen this lifetime. :)
ML>> That's a big piece even to aspire to. Glenn Gould serious.
NB>> I had to finally accept that.
 ML> That fugue, oh man.

The piano variations are distinct from the last movement of the
symphony... but still quite challenging... :)

ML>> In contrast to those who figure that playing the piano
ML>> is just pushing a lot of buttons, I am in awe of those
ML>> who can do so. My entire brain seems to be wired in a
ML>> way hostile to making music via that means.
NB>> I am similarly somewhat in awe of string players, even guitar
ML> You do what you're used to, and the rest, it's Greek as far
 ML> as anyone can tell.

True.

NB>> do play various keyboard instruments, and the recorder (fipple flute)
NB>> as well (usually the C instruments, though I've once in while tried to
 NB>> play the F ones)...

 ML> F instruments are okay, as they're a perfect 4th or 5th off,

As long as I concentrate on the intervals, not the notes/fingering, I do
ok with a treble or bass recorder... once I get the first note fixed...
If I'm actually reading the music, it ends up confusing me... same as
trying to read the tenor staff for singing...

ML> But Bb instruments, whoever had that genius idea. Whyever on
ML> earth not notate at true pitch?

Beats me... I've made Bb and Eb transpositions for our church
instrumental groups from the hymnal lines...
