   Well, federal law does restrict LEGAL ownership of full auto firearms.   
   I question whether that actually amounts to tight control.  After all,   
   it's not very difficult, if someone is willing to violate federal law   
   (and what criminal isn't), to modify just about any semiautomatic   
   firearm so it will operate as fully automatic.  If someone is willing to   
   rob and kill at gunpoint, a federal law adding criminal possession of an   
   automatic firearm to the charges they are already willing to risk will   
   not stop them.
