|    'The Ruling Is Wrong' Says Baker After L    |

XPost: alt.politics.homosexuality, alt.politics, alt.fan.rush-limbaugh       XPost: misc.legal       From: ban.all.faggots@barackobama.com              DENVER (CBS4) – The Colorado Court of Appeals has sided with a       gay couple in the fight over a wedding cake saying a baker       cannot cite religious beliefs in refusing service.              Lakewood baker Jack Phillips, who owns Masterpiece Cakeshop,       refused to make a wedding cake for Charlie Craig and David       Mullins in 2012 saying it was against his religious beliefs. The       couple married in Massachusetts but planned to celebrate in       Colorado.              Craig and Mullins then sued Phillips and the court found that he       violated the law preventing businesses from discrimination based       on sexual orientation.              Phillips tried to appeal that order arguing that it violated his       First Amendment rights. Both sides made their case to the Court       of Appeals in July and the court took until now to rule in favor       of the couple.              Phillips says he’s not opposed to making cakes for gay couples       such as birthday cakes, holiday cakes and graduation cakes. It’s       cakes for gay marriages he says he can’t do based on his       religious beliefs. But the American Civil Liberties Union of       Colorado said if he’s going to open a business to the public he       has to make all services available to everyone in the public.              “When a business opens its doors to the public it can’t       discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation, on the basis of       race,” Mark Silverstein with the ACLU said after the ruling. “It       can’t pick and choose customers based on who they are.”              The Colorado Court of Appeals was the latest stop in the three-       year legal battle that’s tested the boundaries of religious       freedom.              “I think that the ruling is wrong … the constitution guarantees       me the right to practice my faith, my religion, anywhere,       anytime; there are no restrictions on it,” Phillips said. “It       also gives me the right to free speech, anytime, anywhere. I       don’t surrender those rights when I open my doors.”              Phillips now faces fines if he declines to make wedding cakes       for gay couples. After the state ordered him to make wedding       cakes for everyone he stopped making them for anyone. He says it       has cost him 40 percent of his business.              The case will likely wind up before the state Supreme Court and       his attorneys said they are willing to take the case to the U.S.       Supreme Court. Gay couples have won similar cases in other       states.              Statement From Jack Phillips’s Lawyer              “Today’s ruling means that Colorado citizens have a First       Amendment right to believe whatever they want and if those       citizens hold the government approved views on same-sex       marriage, like Azucar bakery, they are entitled to act on those       beliefs without fear of punishment. But for citizens like Jack       Phillips, the court has created a novel exception to the First       Amendment — you’re entitled to believe, but not entitled to act       on those beliefs. You’re not free if your beliefs are confined       to your mind. What makes America unique is our freedom to       peacefully live out these beliefs. We are evaluating next steps.”              Comments:              ulie • an hour ago       What is very strange is that who started it was one of the       plaintiffs...and her mother.              Radical homosexuals run the State of Oregon...many other gays       are ashamed of them... and people have little moral backbone...a       very inward, indifferent and secular state with a history of       being most hostile to people of faith.              It is spreading....any conservative to run for anything       now...will have their reputations destroyed...       1 • Reply•Share ›              Avatar       Joe T • an hour ago       Gays and Lesbians... You want equal rights, you want to be       treated like everyone else in the room. I get it. So lets take       people who disagree with you to court and what... force them to       like you and give you what you demand. What are you 6 years old.       By denying to bake a cake and citing that his beliefs the baker       would cause discrimination. The mere fact he can no longer voice       his opinion is discrimination.              Will the Constitution be made available in two-ply for those who       would support a ludicrous notion that we can no longer have an       opinion if it differs from those around us within our community.              Gay and Lesbians... You want equality but will sue an individual       who disagrees... REALLY!!! Grow up... If you want people to       support you and your way of life then practice tolerance and       understanding not vengeful dislike!              Who cares this guy doesn't want to bake your cake... Move on.       There are far more important things in life than suing someone       over a cake!!!              Focus your energy on helping abused/starving children!       Fight for animal rights!       But leave the baker alone... You will not change his       perspectives or beliefs.       2 • Reply•Share › Show 1 new reply              Avatar       bleek • an hour ago       couldn't go to another bakery?       2 • Reply•Share ›              Avatar       Francisco Peña • an hour ago       Time to go to a Muslim owned bakery and ask for a Jesus Saves       cake. see how that goes.       2 • Reply•Share ›              Avatar       Daniel Williams • an hour ago       Moments ago, CBS deleted all the previous comments associated       with this article. 95% were stridently against this ruling.              Bow before your masters, hetero scum (but for God's sake don't       let them get behind you while you're doing it...)              But seriously, who put these repulsive perverts in charge?       2 • Reply•Share ›                     --       Homophobe - A made up gay word to help gay sexual degenerates       feel better about themselves and their unnatural desire to       consume their own faeces from another man's penis.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
