   A former Lewiston city councilor will serve three years in prison in   
   a child pornography case.   
      
   U.S. District Judge Edward J. Lodge sentenced Matthew P. Carlson   
   Thursday in Coeur d'Alene's federal court to a three-year prison   
   sentence that includes 10 years of supervised release following the   
   prison term, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.   
      
   Carlson will be required to pay $1,500 restitution to one of the   
   children whose images were recovered from Carlson's computer, a   
   spokesperson for U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson's office said. Carlson   
   must also register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.   
      
   Carlson, 31, was indicted last spring by a federal grand jury and   
   charged with one count of possession of sexually explicit images of   
   minors, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in   
   prison and a $250,000 fine.
