The reason for its existence has been in question since the outset.  
Eddie the Eagle was one of the last to compete that was truly part 
of the stated intent of the Games.

I would have thought it was like baseball games around here...

That's why baseball and football are loved by advertisers.  Time 
for commercials is easily arranged.
