NB>> I was wondering where other tidbits of info might have been being
NB>> strewed... :) I wasn't positive it was you in Survnet, as you were
NB>> using an alias, but I thought I recognized your style, and your origin
 NB>> line... ;)

DAG> Yeah I used to bother to try to keep the alias and the real name
DAG> separate, but that little security thing that had me concerned...
DAG> Well I learned as a result of that that bothering to try to keep
DAG> those profiles separated was pretty much doomed to failure, so why
DAG> bother. I've learned to not quite be so loose with my flapping
DAG> gums now, though. I've been accused of distinctive style before. ;)

I've never really seen the point of using the alias... unless one was
thinking it would shield some bogus persona... But then I've almost
always been posting in echos where one's real name was important, like
genealogy, where the whole point was to connect with real people who
might be your distant cousins, working on the same ancestral lines as
you are... ;) And it's better to say only things you don't mind being
remembered, whether in face-to-face or in some electronic media... or
even old fashioned snail mail.. :) Of course, since I'm in an
environment where sometimes people are indeed using aliases (some areas
more than others), I've also honed some skills in figuring out who was
who anyway... :)

NB>> If you are interested in cooking or food in general, there's
NB>> COOKING and HOME_COOKING... good folks there, with overlap between
NB>> the two echos.. There's also MEMORIES, where the chat tends to be
NB>> more general, but supposed to be at least generally tilted towards
NB>> reminiscing... again, good folks there... and new blood always
 NB>> welcome... :)

DAG> I will actually have to add those *scrawls in the to-do notebook as
DAG> the RAM on the computer is swapping badly already*. I need to find
DAG> some recipies that incorporate more veggies that my son will eat
DAG> sometime soon here before his growth gets stunted from munching on
DAG> nothing but carbs when I'm not looking. The diabeetus could be strong
DAG> in this one! Gotta try to steer him away from that.

If you do check out the cooking echos (both Fidonet), be sure to stick
around for a while to get answers for your questions... I've seen too
many dip a toe in and not stay long enough to see that people have
answered them... it might take a few days, like other Fido echos... ;)
But you can ask for specific types of recipes... and expect that you may
well be inundated, so be prepared to capture them for use later... :)

DAG> A little bit of reminiscing might not be the worst idea, so long as
DAG> I stay on the beaten path, too. *grin*

The subjects there are quite diverse... from Old Time Radio (OTR) to
trains (model and actual), to what things were like when we were growing
up, to ham radio, to weather, and back and forth and all around again...
some health issues, some small talk... It's like sitting around the old
pot-bellied stove on our cracker barrels... ;) And cooking is like
pulling up a chair to the kitchen table to talk about food and cooking
and all... ;)

NB>> There's also WX_TALK, for talking about all sorts of weather...
NB>> tends to be quiet, kinda like here... ;)

DAG> Oh I'm active there every now and then. At least I think I am. If
DAG> nothing else I read. I post bits about solar activity being tied to
DAG> weather in one of the echoes, can't remember for sure if it's that
 DAG> one or not.

I don't remember seeing you there (certainly not recently)... maybe it
was a weather echo for one of the other nets...? I was only mentioning
Fidonet echos... since those are the ones I know the best. Dovenet I
lurked in from time to time in the past, but haven't even done that
recently at all... One of the bbses I use regularly happens to have a
few nets available, and I've been lurking in the general chat echoes for
those, just to get an idea of what they are like, but haven't seen any
reason to join in...

I moved the rest of the message to a new one, as this was getting pretty
large... ;)
