NB>> True, some people are more easily distracted than others... and some
NB>> manage to learn how to minimize it eventually... and then there do seem
NB>> to be some that don't seem to be distracted at all (but I bet they're
 NB>> faking it... )
DAG> Hahaha. Yeah I've noticed how in some people it's become a primary
DAG> bogus coping mechanism for things that they don't want to have to deal
DAG> with. Just give in to the shinies... procrastinate... watch your
DAG> life pile up around you until what would've been unpleasant but
DAG> manageable become horrifying and unmanageable. Used to be my M.O.,
DAG> it's not like I'm just seeing it from external sources. Having a kid
DAG> changed that for me, and I'm glad it did.

Shinies weren't so important to me, but books used to get me
off-track... some days more easily than others... now, it's more that my
mind might start to wander, and things just don't quite get done... And
then there's all the interruptions in my own plans for things that need
doing for other people.. :)

DAG> Keeping my fingers crossed for aikido this week, though. It'd be much
DAG> needed socialization time for him, time to burn off some energy (other
DAG> than what I do with him), and just good time to get out of the house.

And if you can do it together, so much the better for both of you, on
various levels... :)

DAG> I wanted to do more, but with all of the troubles it just wasn't
DAG> possible. When I've got the next paycheck in I should be able to make
DAG> up for things a little bit, hopefully.

Sometimes we just can't get everything we'd like to... and it's not a
bad lesson to learn when young... :)

NB>> Sounds to me like some sort of bug, rather than food poisoning...
NB>> especially since I note in later messages that stuff's been going
NB>> around again... ;) But the sore throat and the fever tend to clinch
 NB>> the bug theory... :)
DAG> Turned out to be an influenza strain that hit everybody here. Soon
DAG> as that was gone it caused my son's latent strep (he's a carrier) to
DAG> come out, then that hit my roommate as well. I'm surprised I got lucky
DAG> with that; strep usually kicks my butt. But yeah, it wasn't just some
DAG> sort of weird food illness or something; in varying degrees of severity
DAG> the one-two combo beat us all down for awhile. Despite the fact that I
DAG> wasn't sick with strep like everyone else, it really became bad enough
DAG> for them that I wasn't able to survive outside of the bubble of their
DAG> illness needs, so I'll just consider us all beaten down by the whole
 DAG> thing. :)

Understand that... totally.. :) Hopefully everyone is fully recovered
by now...?

NB>> I understand... :) And I also understand the kid point of view of not
NB>> wanting to waste SUMMER being sick... ;)
DAG> Oh for sure. He still gets cranky at me on that basis just when I
DAG> tell him it's time for bed. ;)

Oh, well... ;)

NB>> Indeed. :) Being in pretty good shape can also help you fight off
NB>> the bugs that come piling in... :)
DAG> I'm counting that when I consider the fact that I didn't come down
DAG> with this strep. ;) Now I'm just trying to get my little guy back
DAG> into the shape he was in before we got here, as well. He used to be
DAG> able to BEAT ME on a 2-mile, despite his short legs. Now he can barely
DAG> keep up on a bike. So every time I go out, he's coming out. With a
DAG> little bit of modification to my routine to make it better for him, of
DAG> course. Definitely some playground time at some of the places where I
DAG> do the majority of my miles. :)

That sounds like a good plan.. :) Be good for both of you... :)
