Ok, this is really about Gold, but part comes from Krugman's
 commentaries about the Bit Coin.

 Krugman points out that the Gold Standard really consists of
 miners digging gold out of the ground so it can be buried again
 in vaults.

 He also refers to Adam Smith, and Smith's consideration of paper
 money allowing a nation to avoid sinking it's wealth in a dead
 stock like silver or gold.

 Just a bit of info picked up recently.
