Is it possible knk2 tries to detect ANSI music support, and if not found it
doesn't display the prompt?

Mtelnet, as well as most other BBS telnet programs, have never supported ANSI
music. Mtelnet never will, either. Syncterm is one of the few (maybe even one
of the only) that does, though. So this may explain why whatever you're
talking about is only displayed in Syncterm, and not in the others you've
tried.
