My first thought was file corruption.  But I tried corrupting the "SCROLL.DAT"
file all sorts of ways and it just gets re-written.  Maybe try deleting or
renaming the file in the \Data subdirectory if nothing else works.

I was, however, able to get the game to crash while trying to read the scrolls
each and every time if the file exists and can't be opened read/write.  Double
check your file permissions to see if something odd has made its way in there.
