I just tried it here (Synchronet on Win32), and it definitely crashes the game
with a "legion.exe has stopped working" error message. I then have to click OK
on the message in order to unlock the node, same as you. I've gone ahead and
removed the game since I don't want it happening when I'm away.

Looks like a bug to me. The game is (or at least was) in active developement
through Phenom Productions (https://www.phenomprod.com/Doors). However, the
author's own site & BBS seem to be down (http://vintagebbsing.co
/legion.ssjs), hopefully temporarily.
