Act of Piracy: PUerto Quepos Costa Rica Friday OCtober 15 ... AT
approximately 7:30 P.M. local time Bruce Stevens, ki6mbq and
his two companions were belowdecks on the vessel, which was
anchored just off the beach near the town of Quetos on the
pacific ocean. six individuals armed with shotguns handguns
and knives boarded the vessel, restrained all aboard with
duct tape and electrical ties then stole cash and all the
shipboard electronics plus the vessel's dinghy. The dinghy
was retrieved some time later however.
Bruce notes that he believes perps surveiled him and those
on board two days previous. A police report has been filed.
Among items stolen: 3 computers, nav electronics; vhf
handheld radios, hf equipment; pactor modem and a
photocopier plus cell phones. Cruisers in the area may wish
to take special note of anybody paying possible undue
attention to them and their activities.
Absent colleagues ... IT is noted that Rooney 6y5rp made
contact yesterday morning, IF I recall correctly with Bill
ka4ksb. HE says he hopes to be back with us soon.
speaking of absent colleagues: Has anybody heard from Dave, w7gox lately?
