          No, "all" and "also" are not synonyms.

          Occasionally we can omit letters or entire words in English without
changing the meaning.  But "also" seems to be a contraction of "all so", i.e.
the translation of a word from Old English.  That's as brief as it gets.  :-Q

          It's often said there are no exact synonyms in English... and while
the "rule" may have "exceptions", a pair like this is all I can come up with.

          Since you are interested in cooking, however... the larger version,
equipped with three or four legs & used to drain bulky food items like cooked
spaghetti or fresh lettuce leaves, is known around here as a "colander".  :-)
