I'll translate, off the top of my head.  If anyone wants to comment on my
translation, whether to ask why I used certain wording, or to offer
constructive suggestions for a better way to say something, feel free.
    I'll add my own comments, below.

ps: forgive me if the screen's sloppy, I'm still trying to get used to this
new laptop, which at apparently random times refuses to give me a clean full
screeen, nothing overscanned, nothing wrapped differently on my screen from
the way it ends up looking here, etc.  I'll try to clean up the display, as
well as I can see it from here.

I think he was using a Mac part of the time, and when that stopped working for
a while, a Linux machine, with its built-in telnet from the command line. 
Neither machine very up-to-date.  I think he's back on the Mac, now.

Maybe he could come in through DMINE.COM, aka BBS Corner, which sometimes
helped me in ages past, when I was away from my home machine.  I found out,
though, that the machine calling in still needs to have a telnet client
loaded.  If not as a default, then from the typical "choose a program from a
list" of things already on the caller's computer. If not, BBS Corner will
suggest some for download.
