Isn't that what the .jlr files in the JAM message base are for? They contain
the last read "pointers" for each user, and they are updated everytime fmail
updates the jam area files, as far as I remember...?

Currently I and the single other test node, only use FMail with Binkly Style
Outbound (BSO), and Golded as editor. And no bbs. So it could use some testing
in other environments...
