TID: PX/Win v7.0 PX36-1252M MSGID: 3:712/1321.5 65665816 TZUTC: -0500 This week's focus is in honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, January 27, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau. Per wikitree.com I am: 27 degrees from Anne Frank 34 degrees from Hannah Arendt 22 degrees from Max Beckmann 32 degrees from Gustave Brunn 24 degrees from Robert Clary 30 degrees from Hermine Gies 22 degrees from Josef Kates 27 degrees from Felix Nussbaum 28 degrees from Edith Stein 28 degrees from Corrie ten Boom 23 degrees from Carl von Ossietzky 27 degrees from Ruth Westheimer More about them: Anne Frank, known for her diary that chronicled her family's persecution. Hannah Arendt fled Germany in 1933 and helped others escape. She is widely considered one of the most important political philosophers of the 20th century and known for her analysis of the Eichmann war crimes trial. Max Beckmann, one of the most important painters of the 20th century. During the 1930s, his art was declared "degenerate" and he was forced into hiding in the Netherlands during the war years. Gustav Brunn, creator of Old Bay Seasoning. His business suffered in Germany with anti-Jewish laws, he was imprisoned at Buchenwald, and released when it was still possible; emigrated to US in 1938. Robert Clary, French-American actor well-known for his role on "Hogans Heroes" as Corporal Louis LeBeau. He survived Buchenwald. Most of his family did not survive the concentration camps. Miep Gies, secretary who helped Otto Frank hide his family (including Anne), the Van Pelts, and Dr. Friedrich "Fritz" Pfeffer. Josef Kates, Canadian engineer whose achievements included the design of the first digital game-playing machine, and the development of the world's first automated traffic signaling system. He fled to Italy before Kristallnacht, then enlisted in the military in England, where he was imprisoned as an "enemy alien." Felix Nussbaum, killed at Auschwitz, was a significant painter of the New Objectivity movement. He created some of his most poignant works while in hiding in Belgium. Edith Stein, killed at Auschwitz-Birkenau. A German-Jewish philosopher, Catholic convert, and saint. Corrie ten Boom, Dutch Christian who, along with her father and other family members, helped many Jews escape the Holocaust. Carl von Ossietzky, Nobel Peace Prize winner and outspoken journalist who exposed Germany's program of secret rearmament and was a prominent critic of the Nazi regime. Dr. Ruth Westheimer, sex therapist, talk show host, author, professor, and Holocaust survivor. ---- I have some ancestors that were actors, architects, astronauts, Afro-American, authors, bank robbers, boxers, comedians, detectives, ghosts, holocaust survivors Indian chiefs, pro hockey players, singers and musicians, painters, physicians, politicians, poets, popes, writers, WW I heroes. I guess that I am a collection of all of them, as we ALL are. https://www.wikitree.com helps me gather this information with their weekly newsletters. It is totally free and very useful to genealogists. If you would like to find your connections to famous people, you can start by giving me some basic information by going to: https://www.hobbyline.com/genealogy_web_design.htm and click on the 'Request Form' link. I have researched the ancestry for many persons interested in their family history, and I would love to see how WE are related.
