That can be a problem with pre-compiled programs on linux.

You probably don't need the -compat ncurses. On Slackware I build with
ncurses-6.2_20201219 and golded builds fine.

Did you grab fresh sources from github? If not grab them from the above URL
and let us know if the problem persists.
