I using MySpell.

1. Add the required XlatCharSet's, e.g. koi_866.chs and 866_koi.chs for
CP866/KOI8-R. For English is not necessary, I think.
Add in golded.cfg:

XLATCHARSET KOI8-R       CP866        koi_866.chs

2. Add and specify the path to the dictionary. I am using two dictionaries:
English and Russian.

ru_RU.dic
ru_RU.aff
Add in golded.cfg:

SCheckerDefLang ru_RU en_US
SCheckerDicPath \fido\golded\dict\
===

3. Specify the color for misspelled words.
Add in gedcolor.cfg (if used, if not used - add in golded.cfg):
