My ISP is with Xfinity, and with a special $30 credit, I just have high speed internet only, and pay $59 a month. I have no desire or need to watch TV programs, and only view the local area TV station newscast, or severe weather upates from their website. It would cost me more with having local TV station access, due to broadcast rights fees. And, my schedule doesn't permit me to watch TV...in fact, the TV sets at my home haven't been used in 5 years, since I first put my Mom in a nursing home before her passing 3 1/2 years ago. I use the modem/router from Xfinity, but have it in "bridge mode", to work with my LinkSys router, that allows me to do port forwarding, and run the BBS from my home. Of course, if I have to reset the LinkSys router, I have to re-enter all the port forwarding data...but I have set up a separate textfile, so I know what to enter. Thankfully, the need to reset the router is rare. While the BBS would be up 24/7 in the cloud, the cost of doing such is not an option for me, being on a fixed income. So, if I have thunderstorms in my area, or a power/internet outage, the BBS is down for a time. Daryl ... You'll win the lottery, and spend all the winnings on The Sysop. === MultiMail/Win v0.52 --- SBBSecho 3.14-Win32 * Origin: The Thunderbolt BBS - Little Rock, Arkansas (954:895/7) SEEN-BY: 229/110 426 470 700 PATH: 229/470 426 |
