So for the past few months, I have been trying to figure out which local
bird it is that has a call that sounds sort of like a frog croaking.  Not
exactly, mind you... it is not as deep as a frog call but it is similar
enough that until this past winter I think I always assumed it was a frog.
After realizing that I was hearing the calls when the temperature was in
the teens out, and that it was coming from trees, I realized otherwise. :)

I still have not quite narrowed it down, but I think it might be one of the
woodpecker species we have locally.  We have at least 7.  One is rather
large and, since I cannot spot the bird to ID it, I am pretty sure it must
be one of the other 6.  Still have not narrowed it down beyond that.
