If you read the message thread again, you will notice that they were not
talking about running fidonet stuff. They were talking about VPN.

You can have a VPS with static /64 and run your own VPN server there. That's
exactly how I have a static ipv6 address everywhere I want. For example at
home to run fidonet stuff. :)
