Chris,
I don't know which version of Ubuntu you're using but Edgy can send
pictures directly to an e-mail recipient compressed as a ZIP file, just
by right-clicking on the file in Nautilus or Metacity and selecting
"Send to". Won't have much effect on JPEGs, GIFs or PNGs but works
wonders if you're sending TIFFs or BMPs.
