One of the annoying things about closed-source programs is that you
can't be sure what it does. TP appears to killfile authors based on the
entire address line, so changing either will avoid it. You can also
create custom kill rules based on regexp matching against any header
line. It can also kill complete threads, individual articles or subject
lines.
In a thread it's possible to select a message and break the thread at
that point. The selected message becomes the parent of a new thread,
effectively splitting the thread into two. Kill rules then affect the
two threads separately. So if a thread topic wanders in one subthread
you can kill that without affecting a different subthread you want to
continue with.
It also supports similar filtering for email. It's possible to set up a
kill rule that will reject emails from a specific individual or domain,
or by matching arbitrary regexps. So for instance I have a rejection
rule set up to automatically reject any mail with a .EXE file as an
attachment.
