AMD was the first to marked a 64bit processor, Intel did 'The Smart
Thing' and copied the AMD protocols so they are compatible.
Be aware that although 64bit Linux is more mature than 64bit Windows it
suffers similar problems!
When you 'just' want to use your computer you are still better off with
the 32bit version, unless you are looking for a particular challenge.
Or you can make a multiple booting system and enjoy both.
