Files should be saved in the users home directory. This is located
at /home/[username]/ by default. On the command line this can be
represented as a ~ so the command cd ~/Desktop changes the current
directory to the your desktop folder. Sometimes there is a Documents
directory created in the users home directory to function similarly to My
Documents in windows.
