Because her can't, few of them can, it's part of their failing.

The funny thing is I came here (~2 years ago) with the same idea as
many noobs and as many folks do happily to many other n/g and forums
around the net in the hope of some help and a bit of friendly banter.
I actually get some of both with some people here but Linux obviously
has a pretty unique appeal so I wasn't surprise with the sort of
people I found.

That not with standing, there are still a good few folk who can and do
try to help without the bias, prejudice and assumptions made by the
likes of Ceed here but even then I hold little malice towards them and
their kind as I am now very aware they simply can't help it or
themselves.

I am merely some bloke that happens to be happy with XP but is trying
other OS's on lots of different hardware and just might need a bit of
help now and again. I don't want lectures on how I should use my OS's
not constant questions why I should be here where there is no onus on
me to do so to anyone, especially the freaks and nutjobs.

If they were actually as bright as they think they are they would
realise that I'll not be leaving here any time soon and I'd spend less
time here if I get some good / useable answers to my technical
questions (but their 'specialness' prevents them from seeing such
things of course).

In the meantime I'll continue trying Linux in the hope that it becomes
truly useable by me in the future.

Cheers, T i m.

p.s. I have a call on my answering machine when I got in tonight from
a guy I installed Mint 10 for dual boot with XP a while back now who
is probably chasing up when I'll go round there to fix the panels that
got all screwed up on their own (luckily XP is still fine). Also, I
might drop in on a mate tomorrow who needs his Windows / Linux
partition sizes adjusting and it's easier for me to do it myself then
try to instruct him over the phone. As he mainly uses Ubuntu since I
installed it for him I could just wipe Vista and give Ubuntu all the
space but he had a Garmin GPS and an iPod ...)
