Hi,
I was doing a little research about setting up a local testing server on
an extra computer here. Two "out of the box" solutions I have come
across for Ubuntu are the Server edition, which has an automated Lamp
server install option, and the XAMPP this here:
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-linux.html
It seems to me these are very similar - does anyone have any helpful
tips for me? I'm not very linux savvy yet, so I'd like to install a GUI
on the same system rather than trying to fake my way though code.
From what I have read, my idea is to install ubuntu with a gui
(probably Xubuntu, just because it uses less memory), then install the
XAMPP business (which seems pretty straightforward). I was going to run
one computer as the server and then the website building from another,
but it seems that would not be neccesary if I were to install a gui on
the server, right? Everything would just be http://localhost/ right?
Anyways, sorry for these (probably) very basic questions - I appreciate
any help or experiences anyone would care to share with me!
