Some hints for newbees: apropos _searchterm_ gives help where to find
more help. Switching automake versions is done in /etc/alternatives so
typing 'apropos alternatives' in a konsole prints out on my system:
update-alternatives (8) - maintain symbolic links ...
update-java-alternatives (8) - update alternatives ...
Browsing the manual page 'man update-alternatives' give the hint that
'update-alternatives --config automake' will give you a prompt to change
the default automake installation. Because it's ubuntu, it might be a good
idea to type a 'sudo' before the command ;-).
In another thread is a discussion about command line vs. GUI. I'm tied to
command line, but a 'apt-cache search alternatives' spits out that there
is a graphical alternative named (surprisingly) "galternatives".
With best regards
Thomas
