Don't get me started on that.  I'll pretend I didn't see this.  Besides you
need glib for mc.

As of this writing I see 5.16-rc8 which is a release candidate if I am not
mistaken.  The latest release is 5.15.12.

It's okay, other than by convention which has UTC as +00, but the above is
acceptable.

  TZ=UTC date --rfc-3339=sec --date="Wed Dec 29 14:49:17 -00 2021"

I believe the above is MUCH better output and note the '+' character in the
tz.  Anyhow the above demonstrates that gentoo's timezone is fine.
