grub is grub :)

you need to tell x11 to do the same

X -configure

that will create a new xorg.conf, no ?

x11 will run best with no config at all, then it will auto adapt settings to
all supported hardware, have you a video  card that is unsupported in x11 ?,
then you only have vesa .....

to test the new config from abouve read output on the first X.... :)
