I just built a fresh lfs system, Node.js is building over there as we speak.

There must be many way to do it but I did it like this.

I booted slackware live cd and followed the book to get linux installed.

You can read the linux from scratch book online, or download it and load it up
in your favorite browser. You can also grab a .pdf if that works for you.

Start with lfs (linux from scratch) and then once you have your computer
booted you can move beyond that to blfs "beyond linux from scratch".
