Could be.  From what I read it sounds like Gentoo made it more complicated
than it needed to be.

I wouldn;t bet the farm on it.  I am hesitant to guess how critical this is to
someone's python based package manager.  :::shudder:::  As Yosimite Sam says,
"I hates pythons."  :-)
