I am unsure of what that means but my best hunch is that it has nothing to do
with the MSG standard(s).  Also for display purposes every node has it's
choice and could easily be html as log as messages for fidonet are in the MSG
format for packed msgs.  Personally I don't have any issues with html other
than I don't wish to follow suit.

Agreed.  I have witnessed far worse than double when comparing straight text
with no tags compared to that same text with html tags.
