XPost: linux.debian.bugs.dist       From: chris@1006.org              > I think the most useful way forward would be to bisect that problem.       > [...]       > (Some thoughts I had before considering that bisecting is the right       > thing to do: Your machine has two VGA adapters, which is the relevant?       > [...]                     Hi Uwe,              thanks for the detailed instructions.              I looked into this a bit today. First of all I tried to connect       different monitors and/or two monitors at the same time and can       confirm the problem appears to be uninfluenced by that.       Only one of the video outputs is active after linux boots (so       it's not that the missing console just moved to the other screen).              Then I find a *workaround* (not a fix) that works for me: I've       just installed xfce4 and lightdm, which gave me a perfectly       working graphical console. This is a server, and I needed a       console just as a fall-back anyway to access the machine in case       of network problems, which the graphical console is fine for.              Out of curiosity CTRL-ALT-F1..F6 still does not bring up a       text console. While on F1-F6 The screen keeps on showing the F7-X11       screen, but the mouse cursor disappears. CTRL-ALT-F7 then brings       back the mouse cursor, all good.              As this workaround works for me, I'm sorry to say I will not       pursue the git bisecting tests which would consist in more work       I can afford at this time.              Again, I appreciated your answers and suggestions, both Uwe       and Kathara.              Thanks,       Chris.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
