   Dear Maintainer,

Attempting to use wacom_serial4 with my Digitizer II fails. Upon running
   `inputattach --wacom_iv /dev/ttyUSB0` The kernel log outputs:
   ========
   [28183.580724] usb 8-2: reset full-speed USB device number 2 using ohci-pci
[28183.762333] keyspan 8-2:1.0: Keyspan 1 port adapter converter detected
[28183.762737] usb 8-2: Keyspan 1 port adapter converter now attached to
   ttyUSB0
   [28204.140559] serio: Serial port ttyUSB0
   [28204.159732] wacom_serial4 serio2: probe with driver wacom_serial4 failed
   with error -1
   ========

No input devices are made and applications can't see the tablet.

As this device uses 9600 baud, I've also tried using `inputattach --baud 9600
--wacom_iv /dev/ttyUSB0` and got the same result.

Attempting to follow the instructions at: https://wiki.debian.org/WacomArtPadII

does not work. This is because the upstream xf86-input-wacom project removed
support for the serial backend in 2022. See also:
   https://github.com/linuxwacom/xf86-input-wacom/issues/197
   and
   https://github.com/whot/xf86-input-
   wacom/commit/4fe24547861fa38548f20e5a0bc1f79b5576d8a0

The tablet and tty device themselves were verified to be working by:
   1) Running `inputattach --dump /dev/ttyUSB0` and seeing valid data from the
   tablet.

   2) Attaching the tablet's tty device to a Windows XP guest VM under VirtualBox,
(VirtualBox's serial passthrough mode), and installing the Windows driver in
   the VM.

I've also attempted to use isdv4-serial-debugger, but it simply cannot get a
response from the device, and outputs a timeout error. Looking at it's source
code, I don't see how it's supposed to work, as it's seemingly using invalid
commands to reset the device. According to the wacom_serial4 driver
   (linux-6.12.63/drivers/input/tablet/wacom_serial4.c:L119), the reset to command
IV mode string is "\r#", but isdv4-serial-debugger uses "&" for this purpose
(xf86-input-wacom-1.2.3/include/isdv4.h:L28). The device id string in
isdv4-serial-debugger also seems to be wrong:
   (linux-6.12.63/drivers/input/tablet/wacom_serial4.c:L116), the query version
string is "~#", but isdv4-serial-debugger uses "*" for this purpose
(xf86-input-wacom-1.2.3/include/isdv4.h:L27). Perhaps this is due to the
removal of serial support from xf86-input-wacom?

It would be nice if there was someway to get this tablet working under Debian
   natively again.
