   Dear Maintainer,   
   on Debian/sid with KDE Plasma, when the desktop layout is set to "Folder View"   
   the desktop behaves like the "Desktop" layout and desktop icons are not   
   visible. Switching the layout to "Desktop" and then switching back to "Folder   
   View" restores the icons and they become visible again. Additionally, the   
   Overview (desktop switcher / Present Windows/Activities overview) no longer   
   shows workspace contents correctly: it displays only empty   
   rectangles/placeholders instead of rendered desktop previews or icons.   
      
   Steps to reproduce:   
   Boot or log in to Debian/sid with KDE Plasma, previously configured with Layout   
   set to "Folder View."   
   You'll notice that the desktop icons that should be displayed in Folder View   
   are not visible (the desktop appears blank).   
   In Desktop Settings, set Layout to "Desktop," then change Layout back to   
   "Folder View."   
   You'll notice that the desktop icons immediately reappear.   
   However, in the "Overview" effect, the desktop previews in Overview are empty   
   rectangles/placeholders instead of rendered previews.   
   The problem occurs again the next time you use the "Overview" effect.   
      
   So the folder view behaves like the desktop, and the desktop icons aren't   
   displayed until you toggle the layout. The overview only shows empty   
   rectangles/placeholders.
