I agree that it appears pretty useless. I was thinking       about this       when fixing lintian FTBFS with new appstream and I changed the line just       above. Thinking more       about it, I am inclined to agree that it does not serve any purpose. More so,       dying just because       of that is probably un-needed.              I've raised a merge request https://salsa.debian.org/lintian/lin       ian/-/merge_requests/665 to drop       these lines.
