I have not run with a modem for years for I can olny point out things that may
help you to get that going.

I think qico is an option for a mailer to answer calls. I suspect but I don't
know that it works with mgetty.

My synchronet install includes sexpots. I don't know how it works or if it will
 work outside of synchronet.

MBSE BBS can take modem calls either for the BBS or mailer. I believe it does
this with mgetty.

The answer may or may not be in there I can't say for sure since I have never
tried it :)
