Sharon,
The beauty of you being a part of this chat with Telegram is that you really
don't have to worry about it. it's something you already have and that you're
familiar with. Where the tension comes in is that the telegram chat is
connected to a different system of distribution of messages. It's an old
school system and technically challenging to get access to on a cellphone if
not through Telegram. 
Aftershock is a newish app to make it easier, but even that still requires
somewhat more effort than just joining the group through TG.

There are those who believe that if you haven't suffered through the trials
and tribulations of struggling to get it working "the old way" then you're not
worthy of taking part.
