Hello All.

Greetings, folks. This is basically an intro message for the liveaudio mailing
list. Add the list address to your contacts to keep us out of your junk mail
folder. :-) The following is a one time posting of the FAQ/rules. Sure glad
to have you folks on this list!

++++++CUT++++++

You have accepted the invitation to join the liveaudio mailing list.
Here's what it's all about.

Thanks for joining the liveaudio mailing list. Liveaudio is a
conference carried on various systems in a network (FidoNet) which
is almost as old as the internet, and which was at one time far more
accessible to just average folks.

The liveaudio mailing list is administered by Marc Lewis of
Huntsville, Alabama. He and Richard Webb of Eads, Tennessee are the
moderators of the live_audio conference on Fidonet, which will also
see your posts.

By posting on the list or in the conference you indicate your
acceptance of these rules. You have been invited to join the
mailing list since you are known to be a professional working in
sound reinforcement or a related field.

These are the rules of the list and the Fidonet conference alike:

First, for those on the internet side of things please post PLAIN
TEXT (not HTML) and NO FILE ATTACHMENTS to the list. Don't post
binary files (jpegs, gifs, .exe, .zip) or binary signatures (VCard)
to the list. They are quite useless in this environment.

Like Usenet, top posting is frowned on. Whenever possible post your
reply UNDER the original message, keeping the quoted text to a
minimum; just enough to keep the context intact.

We have a zero tolerance policy for spam, this includes
advertisements. If not sure, ask the moderators for guidance before
posting. Repeat violators will end up in the "No_Post" file with
their messages going into the bit bucket.

Almost as important, be kind to the newbies. One of the reasons
we're here is to give newbies guidance in the field. We all learned
our craft over a period of time, we didn't start out knowing
everything.

A good basic reference on many things audio can be found by perusing
the FAQ file for the newsgroup rec.audio.pro. It can be found at

http://recordist.com/rap-faq/current

Download a zipped text copy of the FAQ at:

http://www.filegate.net/epub/ep-ascii/rapfaq.zip

The version on filegate.net is the same as can be found at
recordist.com, which as of this writing was 0.9.2. Although these
later copies have not been updated recently they still contain
valuable information for the neophyte, and are later than the
version at the usual FAQ repository at rtfm.mit.edu.

There are still folks out there who do not appreciate interacting
with the various web forums out there. Other web forums geared
toward audio professionals just echo Usenet and disguise usenet
traffic as its own material. Liveaudio is intended to provide a
text based forum to those with an interest in sound reinforcement
which provides a lot of good signal, and no noise.

The list server program used here excludes the poster from receiving
a copy of his/her post back again -- to save time, space on your
hard drive and annoyance.

Here are some of the guidelines we post mainly for folks from the
Fidonet side, which often makes conferences publicly available to
almost anyone who walks in the door. Please keep them in mind as
well.

Use your real name. If not sure, check birth certificate or other
legal documents. If your real name does not appear in the From:
field then it should be plainly visible in the body of the post.
Posters using the listserv should be mindful of this.

If you choose to post stating an affiliation with a business,
remember you represent them publicly with your posts to this list.
Let you conscience be your guide.

NO off topic posts, including chain letters, pyramid schemes, test
posts, etcetera. "Where are you from" might be relevant so as to
find somebody who can pay a visit to a poster's facility to help
him/her solve a problem.

Home recording, home theater and car audio are NOT topical to this
forum. We're sure you already knew that however.

Personal attacks will *not* be tolerated. Check your flame thrower
at the door. Conduct yourself as a reasoning thinking adult human
being at all times in the list and echo. Again repeating violators
are subject to ending up in the NO_POST file.

Because of the nature of sound reinforcement there are times when a
poster may suggest a technique or practice which could endanger
others or himself. After all, we're dealing with construction
techniques and electricity quite often. When a poster recommends
such practices, debunk the recommendation but don't get personal.

If discussing building and/or electrical codes do attempt to cite
actual regulations. Remember that these vary according to locale.

To get another copy of this FAQ, address a message to:
          liveaudio-info@net396.fidonet.org

To unsubscribe (we hope not!) send a message to:
          liveaudio-u@net396.fidonet.org

Problems with the list? Address a message to:
          liveaudio-owner@net396.fidonet.org

Finally, thanks again for joining us. We're actually not that hard
to get along with. We (both moderators) just want a high quality
text based forum dedicated to sound reinforcement.

Regards,
           Richard and Marc
