I'm Thankful For A Hobby, That's So Versatile And Fun
                     Written By Daryl Stout, WX4QZ

1) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
A hobby that I came into, in nineteen ninety one.
So many things that one could do, in ham radio ranks.
And for these, this poem conveys, all my grateful thanks.

2) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Those as young as five years old...as old as ninety one.
Earning of their license, start ham radios odyssey.
Study options, frequent testing, there for all to see.

3) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Volunteer Examiners, encourage everyone.
Though a failed license test, there is no disgrace.
Study more, they will pass, and have a smiling face.

4) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
A weeks wait for the first callsign; on air work, begun.
When the call's in FCC's license database,
The new ham, can operate, no matter where they're placed.

5) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Whether on the air at night, or during daytime sun.
Local or around the world, on air, to be found.
A fellow ham to talk to you, QSO's abound.

6) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Rules and Regs of FCC, apply to everyone.
Good practice of your ham station, there without complaint.
Operate above reproach, your station, without taint.

7) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Those who volunteer to serve, each and everyone.
Working parades, bikeathons, or a running race.
Net Controls, Officers, wherever they are placed.

8) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Those who work behind the scenes, so much to be done.
Webmasters, Instructors, and many more, unnamed,
To make the hobby better there, it's their claim to fame.

9) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
QSL cards, logging contacts, contesting that's done.
Morse Code, Repeaters, Satellites, and Amateur TV.
Packet, DStar, SDR, Q Signals, Seventy-Three.

10) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
The Elmers, helping through the years, on a mode that's done.
Whether they are still involved, or now Silent Key.
Mentoring appreciated, there immeasurably.

11) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
On the air, a family, each and every one.
Helping out in time of need, or they themselves, request.
Courtesy to fellow hams, amateurs are the best.

12) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
In disaster, all hams come, together now, as one.
Forgetting any pettiness, or grudges one may hold.
Communicating, saving lives, worth more than all gold.

13) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Skywarn Traffic, when storms start, to when they are done.
Your warning may save a life, of one you'll never know.
Helping of your fellow man, the only way to go.

14) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Your responsibility to it, is never done.
Show the pride of being a ham, in everything you do.
A two way street, to others, and yourself, to say "thank you".

15) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Whether licensed many years, or journey, just begun.
Novice, Technician, General, Advanced, Amateur Extra, too.
No matter what your license class, be proud in what you do.

16) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
The many friends that I have met, each and every one.
Whether Single, Married, Divorced, Widowed, Rich, Or Poor.
Their ham radio legacy, forever will endure.

17) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Maybe you, too, can relate, to these words, there spun.
In this poem, that The Lord, The Master Net Control.
Gave to me, I give Him Thanks, all my heart and soul.

18) I'm thankful for a hobby, that's so versatile and fun.
Whether you do many things, or concentrate on one.
So many things involved in, the ham radio ranks.
And for these, this poem conveys, all my grateful thanks.
