Replying to a message of Jeff Binkley to All: JB> I got up this morning, jumped out of bed, wanting to be the first in JB> line at the polls. The polls open at 6:30. I got to the polling JB> place at 6:20 and there were already a dozen people in front of me. JB> When I left they were streaming in. Ohio is ground zero to turn JB> back Obama's agenda. I walked out with a big grin on my face. I managed to control myself until about 0900 when I went up to vote. First time I can recall seeing so many cars parked in front of the polling place. Note that my township and the one immediately north have combined their polling places into one location. There were 3 or 4 voters there when I arrived and a few more arrived before I left, and I was only there about 15 minutes; the last time I voted there I had the place to myself. Anyhow, after I voted I asked one of the ladies there what the turnout was like and she said it was a bit higher then they usually have. And this, of course, is an off-year election... I did note that they did away with the electronic touch-screen voting machines this time. Mark/sense paper ballots that you feed into a slot where the machine scans the ballot on the way in and keeps it in a locked box in the bottom. Which IMO is a good thing - there's a paper audit trail "just in case." No idea how the voting is going, I guess I'll find out tomorrow morning (the polls here are open until 2100 and I'm not going to stay up to hear any results). --- FleetStreet 1.19+ * Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) |
