This sounds like what I was seeing although it was a while ago. I see
hotdoged is back in the play store so I have reinstalled. When I get some
time I'll have another look.

I'm pretty sure it was the HOTDOGED area. I don't recall if I posted my own
issues with this but read other were talking about old messages being seen
as new, it sounded like my own issue. It was 1-2 years ago.
But anyway, I'll have a fresh look and see if I can see it again and/or get
passed it.
