I haven't read the article (probably TL;DR) ..but I personally  
could get frustrated having to change a phone that I am  
accustomed to using, that has all my content (pics, downloads,  
etc) every year!   Even a subtle change on where I expect a  
particiular app would be annoying.

It just sounds like a ploy to just extract more money from  
already satisfied iphone users by waving the "carrot" of a  
shiny new phone in front of them.
