XPost: can.politics       From: Panca@nyet.ca              I'll bet most of those who were interested were either Conservative senators or       jewish business types (=_=)       _________________________________________________              Montreal Gazette October 16, 2014                     Police shut down free-seminar scam on how to avoid taxes                     MONTREAL, QUE: OCTOBER 16, 2012 - The SQ raided the 2nd floor offices of DJL at       1550 rue Ampere in Boucherville, on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 as part of       today's Quebec anti-corruption squad raids.                     Ever thought of having the U.S. treasury pay your debts?              As implausible as it may seem, two men apparently sold a number of Quebecers on       the idea, inspired by the controversial “Freeman on the Land” movement in       the U.S.              Provincial police identified the two as Pierre Cardin, 59, of Montreal and       Jean-Marc Paquin, 44, of Laval. They were arrested Thursday and are due to       appear in court Friday in Laval to face a total of 23 counts of fraud.              To date, police have retraced about two dozen victims, who reportedly put up       money that they never saw again as part of the scam, and said the number could       exceed 100. The men were active in Montreal, Laval, Sherbrooke, Drummondville       and Quebec City, hosting free “information sessions” on how to avoid paying       taxes and debts.              Police and tax authorities have been investigating them since November of 2013,       and police estimated the sums involved at $10 million.              Canada Revenue Agency, for its part, said it executed nine search warrants       Thursday in the Montreal area and elsewhere in the province as part of its own       investigation of “tax protester” schemes, with the help of the Sûreté du       Quebec.              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
