That would be my guess too.

At one point I was able to get the whole article on sites that  
operated by popping up a subscription notice. The trick is/was  
to either [1] stop the screen load BEFORE the pop-up could  
load. OR, [2] do a quick "Ctrl-A + Copy" BEFORE the pop-up  
could load.

But the technique doesn't seem to work on that website.
